How to sign your Colorado title when selling your vehicle

The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following easy steps:
  1. Always print your name on the back of the title where it says “Seller’s hand printed name(s)”.
  2. Second, sign your name on the back of the title where indicated by “Seller(s) Signature”.

How to get a duplicate title for my vehicle

If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than Colorado, you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state in which the vehicle was last titled.
The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the Colorado Duplicate Title Request and Reciept form.
  2. Obtain a Secure and Verifiable Identification for vehicles purchased after July 1st, 2006.
  3. Bring your application for duplicate title to your local Colorado DMV office.

Please note there may be a waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued and the cost is $8.20. (Paid to the CO division of motor vehicles).
