How to sign your Kentucky title when selling your vehicle

Important: Kentucky titles may need to be notarized

The registered owner of the vehicle should do the following:
  1. Always sign the back of the title where indicated by “Transferor(s) signature”. This may need to be done in front of a legal notary.
  2. Secondly have the title notarized if required.

How to get a duplicate title for my vehicle

If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than Kentucky, you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state in which the vehicle was last titled. Find your state at the bottom of our homepage for instructions.
The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the Kentucky application for certificate of title.
  2. Bring your application to you local Kentucky county clerk’s office.

Please note that there may be a waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued and the cost is $6.00 plus a $2.00 notary fee if required.
