How to sign your Massachusetts title when selling your vehicle

The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following easy steps:
  1. Always sign the back of the title where indicated by “Signature(s) of Seller(s)”.
  2. Second, print (don’t sign) your name on the back of the title where it reads “Printed Name(s) of Seller(s)”.

How to get a duplicate title for my vehicle

If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than Massachusetts, you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state in which the vehicle was last titled.
The registered owner of the vehicle should complete the following steps:

  1. Use the online Massachusetts duplicate title form.
  2. Or fill out the physical form.
  3. Mail the completed form and $25.00 check (made out to the Mass DOT) to:

Please note that there may be a seven to ten day waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued and the cost is $25.00. (Paid to the Mass DOT).
