How to sign your South Dakota title when selling your vehicle

If the vehicle was last titled in a state other than South Dakota, you must apply for a duplicate title in the previous state.
The registered owner of the vehicle should do the following:
- Fill out the State of South Dakota Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title.
- If your vehicle is newer than 10 years old provide a current odometer reading. You can choose one of the following options: Bring your duplicate title application to the local county treasurer’s office, or Mail your application to the SD division of motor vehicles at:

Please note that there may be a one or two waiting period before a duplicate title can be issued and the cost is $10.00.
